During my internship at Buro BRAND, I mainly worked with pen tablets in Illustrator. Here I was able to use my (digital) drawing talents to help customers of the design studio. Through visual communication, I have been able to translate complex issues into understandable illustrations.
The client asked me to design window stickers for the location in South Rotterdam. I drew the illustrations digitally with a pen tablet. These were then printed in large format, giving the business a recognizable appearance from afar.
For the event ‘Wanted’, held in Skateland Rotterdam, I was allowed to design a flyer and poster. Two scooter brands were then looking for two people to sponsor. This so that they could promote and represent the brands. I was asked if I could make a western style design.
I designed these messages for the webshop Disloyal. This to promote promotions and announcements intended for their Instagram account. The colors and illustrations are tailored to the brand’s house style.
The ‘Miniramp Warriors’ event was organized in Skateland in 2017. For promotion I designed an announcement for social media. The competition was held in a mini ramp (a kind of half pipe), which I depicted as a battlefield, which refers to the name of the event.
Christmas cards are sent out by the skate park every year. I coordinated the design with the house style colors of the skate park. One of the illustrations features all four sports that use the park. The other shows an illustration of ‘Doekie’, the dog that always roams free in the park. Here I have made it look like the design is knitted through wool.
Skateboard and scooter evenings were regularly held in Skateland. To promote this, I designed a series of posters. The colors of the ‘Scoot Night’ poster are inline with the color usage of the main sponsor of the competition. I made the illustration of the cat on the scooter because the competition was held on Friday the thirteenth.
Best of Blaak was organized in 2017 at Westblaak, the famous skate park in Rotterdam. This event opened the National Sports Week, which was attended by the alderman of Sports and the chairman of NOC*NSF. The event focused on skateboarders, steppers, inline skaters and BMX riders. Because the competition is intended for these different sports, I have created a design that all athletes can identify with. The transformer is a recognizable work of art that has been standing in the middle of Westblaak for years.
Roll your Rot is an annual skateboard competition. This competition is intended for the top of the Dutch skateboard youth under 16 years old. I designed the logo fairly quickly, and it has been used for the event since 2015.
I designed this logo for the Benelux freestyle scooter championship. The stunt scooter competition is organized annually in Skateland. The lion on the scooter symbolizes the Netherlands and is now very recognizable for the event.
The assignment was to design a platform for a bicycle rental system in the Netherlands. I was a bit stubborn about this, and I made the choice to design a scooter rental system. I came up with this concept before renting out electric scooters became so popular worldwide.
The challenge for me as a designer during this project was to simplify the original menu. To make the menu clearer for customers and to serve them faster. I designed the menu in the same style as the digital screens.
In the Burgers & Frites restaurants, there are several connected monitors on which the menu is displayed. These designs have come about from multiple iterations. By repeatedly testing the designs in the restaurants, I have seen what works best. To make the ordering process simpler and clearer for the customer.
I was asked to design a new logo for Burgers & Frites. For this, I presented several concepts to the clients. Then I designed various iterations. In the end, I was able to create a logo that the owners are proud of. It is now a recognizable logo, which has been growing along with the business for many years now.
A poster campaign that I designed in 2014 for the opening of the Hefpark in South Rotterdam. In the middle of the park, ‘dirt jumps’ and ‘pump tracks’ have been constructed for jumping and crossing with a BMX bike. For this poster I made several concepts and presented them to the clients. I then made the final adjustments based on the feedback. The fonts and colors used are in line with the corporate identity of the Feijenoord Kop van Zuid district.
